Whether you’re completely new to the practice of yoga, or are a seasoned student of yoga – I’d like to start by prefacing this blog by stating - yoga is for everybody. Yoga, is for every, single, body. A lot of the time, when I tell people I practice yoga, they reply with, “oh, I’m not *insert word here* enough to do yoga”. In western culture, yoga has sadly and largely been characterised as a movement or stretching practice for flexible people wearing Lululemon. This couldn’t be further from what the truth of what this ancient practice embodies.
Hi – my name is Shae! I’m a passionate physiotherapist and yoga teacher, who has recently landed this wonderful opportunity to teach yoga with MPPP. I hold a strong belief that movement is a form of medicine. I’ve not only been lucky enough to experience the physical benefits of yoga; but have discovered the transformative powers of yoga for my mental and spiritual wellbeing. It gives me great excitement and pleasure to combine my knowledge as a physiotherapist and yoga teacher, to provide you with a safe and nurturing space to experience yoga in the holistic way the practice offers.
Beyond movement and stretching, which of course is a small part of what yoga offers – yoga is a rich practice that can ripple through every layer of your being, landing at your deepest, most true self; on a soul-level. Yoga provides opportunities to turn your gaze inwards and connect to self, in a time where so much of your attention is demanded in the outer world. If you’ve ever felt like life has been busy or stressful – that you’re running a hundred miles an hour just to keep up with the daily demands and challenges that life throws your way – or perhaps feeling like you’ve lost yourself along the way somewhere - then you’d benefit from yoga.
Yoga allows us to connect in with our bodies and minds, in all stages of life. Our bodies carry us through every moment of our lives – the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Our bodies not only hold us in the time and space of the present, but our bodies can also carry experiences from the past. This can often manifest as chronic tension or chronic pain. Perhaps it can also manifest in negative beliefs of the self, as we may struggle to keep up with society’s and our own expectations of the way we think things “should be”. In yoga, we are gifted with opportunities to strip away the layers of expectations, the should be’s, the could be’s, to connect in with what truly is. This can be particularly beneficial in times where we’re experiencing life changes. Yoga also gifts us with tools that can help us manage many challenges we face on a day-to-day basis.
No matter what stage of life your body is carrying you through; whether it’s stress, pain, discomfort, incredible and rapid changes happening in your body throughout pregnancy, the massive life adjustments that come with welcoming a baby into this world – MPPP offers a style of yoga that is suitable and beneficial for you.
Restorative yoga, also known as yin yoga, is a slow and gentle practice, tailored to slowing down your body and your mind, to drop into a state of rest and relaxation. In our restorative yoga classes on Tuesday evenings, we provide you the opportunity to take a well-deserved break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, to nourish your nervous system and facilitate a greater sense of wellbeing and vitality. Safe and supported options are always made available for you in our small and intimate classes, to ensure you have the opportunity to rest in shapes that are most comfortable for your body. If you’re pregnant, you may find our restorative yoga classes a time to connect in with not only yourself; but with the life that you’re creating from within. This time for connection can foster deeper awareness and intuition, and empower you to trust in your body and mind’s ability to live and give life in harmonious alignment with your deepest core values. Our restorative classes are accessible to anyone who seeks a way to percolate some self-care into their week.
Our parents and bubs yoga classes, on Thursday mornings, provide a safe and welcome space for you to practice a more dynamic style of yoga, with the option to bring along the wonderful little human you created. This class aims to help support you in continuing to practice yoga through your pregnancy, or returning to yoga postpartum. No matter the day, week, month, or year you’re having, MPPP’s parents and bubs yoga classes safely hold space to nurture all that arises for you. You may find this class an opportunity to connect deeper to self, to bubs, or with other parents with babies of similar ages.
One of the many benefits of attending my classes is that you’ll be able to claim expenses back through your private health insurance. If you’re interested in claiming back on your health insurance, all you’ll be required to do prior to attending classes, is have a one-on-one consultation with one of MPPP’s highly trained physiotherapists. If you’re not claiming on your private health insurance, you’re able to book into the classes with no prior consultation.
If you have any questions about the classes, or anything yoga-related, I’d love to connect with you on Instagram - @shae.klemke_yoga. I hope to see you on the mat!
